I’ve worked at four Olympic Games, three Paralympic Games and more than 20 world and European Championships, plus four Commonwealth Games. Read testimonials below.

I attended many of these as an independent journalist. However, I have also become a valued member of news service teams at sporting events across the world including the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, 2018 European Championships, the 2019 Military World Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

I have led teams in my areas of expertise and been responsible for training volunteers.

I have also covered sports of which I had little prior knowledge and through extensive research and questioning, I have produced insightful, informative copy.

Testimonials

“I have always been delighted to have Liz on my team for the Olympic Games. As well as being a very good sub-editor, her reporting skills have been invaluable and are of the highest quality and her all-round attitude makes her an excellent team member. She is flexible and committed to the role in every aspect.”

Roddie McVake

Editor-in-Chief, Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games

“Elizabeth Byrnes was engaged as a news service reporter for the discipline of swimming. There were two reporters at each discipline who were relied upon to produce accurate, newsworthy flash quotes, reports and stories in a timely fashion.

“Liz produced excellent material that was put onto the website and used by both the accredited media and media who were unable to be present in Glasgow but still covering the event.

“Pearce International would definitely consider Liz for any news service we were organising in the future.”

Jayne Pearce

Director, Pearce International, which assembled a news service operation at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland

“I have known and worked with Liz for almost a decade. She has shown she is dependable and has a superb work ethic.

“Liz is a self-starter who is a superb researcher and an excellent writer. She is also versatile and can handle any assignment handed to her.

“At the Military Games, for example, she was sent to cover the Naval Pentathlon, and this event includes disciplines unknown to the world outside the forces. She went into great detail about these differences, without losing focus on how Naval Pentathlon was a world-class event. Her story was well received by the Military Games press officer.

“Part of the responsibilities Liz had in Wuhan was helping me train Chinese students, who were English-language major but new to the world of journalism, on how, as flash quote reporters, to interview elite athletes and get beyond the world of cliches in describing the emotions of competition. Here again Liz excelled at teaching newcomers about international sport and providing insight on the difference between a good quote and a bad quote.

“Liz also offered a hand in doing research and writing reports prior to the start of competition, which proved invaluable to the overall success of the news service. She is great team player.”
